The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Services
The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, CARF International is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services in the following areas: Aging Services, Behavioral Health, Opioid Treatment Programs, Business and Services Management Networks, Child and Youth Services, Employment and Community Services, Vision Rehabilitation, Medical Rehabilitation, DMEPOS (Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies) Providers are not required to be accredited by this organization but those that choose to typically find they have a competitive edge in the marketplace.

The Joint Commission
The Joint Commission (TJC) accredits skilled nursing facilities to include:

  • Beds licensed by the state as nursing home beds
  • Beds designated as long term care beds under a hospital license
  • Beds, units or facilities certified by Medicare or Medicaid as skilled nursing facility beds
  • Beds, units or facilities designated as long term care by a governmental entity, such as the Department of Veterans’ Affairs or a state authority
